: Life is a journey. The journey is meant to be fun, interesting, engaging, awakening, and fulfilling. So what happens when that journey conflicts with the need to pay the bills? What happens when the journey looks more like a jigsaw puzzle than a smooth road on a fast track highway? That’s kind of what it feels like at this point in my life. I work full-time at the Biltmore Estate in their call center. I love the estate and helping others discover that beauty makes each day worthwhile – but – I really enjoy working with young people and their families.
When I see a young person doubt themselves, their self-worth; when they blame a ‘disorder’, or their parents, or a teacher, instead of recognizing the power they have to change the situation, I get excited with this opportunity to educate them, their parents or grandparents. I enjoy sharing the simple ways each one can modify the foods they are eating or what and how they are preparing the food for themselves or their families. Or when a young person begins to understand that the food choices they make have real health consequences and that there is no blame or shame because all choices are made based on the information we have available to us at that moment. Knowing that now, with this new information, everyone will see how these changes manifest in positive energy cultivating responses instead of the negative energy draining reactions that lead to the disruptions in the first place. Seeing a young person gladly take responsibility for the foods they eat because they know how they will behave and how their body will respond when they make that choice. This is my goal, my vision for my future.
My next step is completing my certification as a Holistic Nutritionist and becoming that voice that helps change the POV that public school officials and some medical professionals when they see a young person act out. When families and schools realize that the breakfasts and lunches they are feeding our young people are actually contributing to the behaviors that lead to even more labeling. I look forward to a time when young people are actually served healthy, nutritious foods at school. The focus has to shift from calorie counting to nutritional intake. No more fake foods filled with artificial colors, flavorings, and ingredients. Real foods for real educational results. The next generation deserves it.

My SWIHA Story
I came to SWIHA almost as a last resort. I had developed health issues affected by my work in administration and I was struggling, as a single parent of 3, to find a way to meet their educational and health needs, especially my youngest son who had been diagnosed with ADHD. After my first hypnotherapy class, I was hooked. I found the first answers I was seeking for my family and even more so, I discovered that I had personal needs I had been ignoring for a very long time. My instructors and fellow students became the family I missed as they helped and supported me physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. What I discovered at SWIHA, through both the Mind-Body Psychology and Western Herbalism degree programs has set me on the life path I was meant to walk. I will always be grateful for my SWIHA experience and never hesitate to recommend KC and the other instructors to anyone looking to change their life for the better.
